With lockdowns increasing and travel perimeters decreasing, we are thinking of places we’d rather be. A year ago Australia was the best place to be, but now we think maybe a smaller Australian island, with even fewer people would be better.
All islands are in different states, with different features, giving plenty of diversity. Importantly, all offer exclusive rental of the entire island.
These could be your very own travel bubbles, where you control the borders!

Pumpkin Island Queensland
How about your own island on the Great Barrier Reef? This Pumpkin patch of paradise is 14 km off Yeppoon and takes up to 34 people, so you can take your whole family into isolation. Cabins are spread out and there are plenty of beaches to explore. Fish, swim, snorkel or just relax. Sunset bbqs on the deck complete the days and get you excited to do it all again tomorrow.

Fraser Island Victoria
The ‘other’ Fraser Island is a 30-hectare island in the Gippsland Lakes, 3 hours east of Melbourne. The lakes stretch for 80kms and boast delightful Riviera weather. You can explore the lakes on your very own ferry, try the 9-hole golf course, hit out on the tennis courts, have a swim or explore the island. Fish, water-ski or simply relax. The 100 year old homestead has 11 bedrooms so you could bring multiple families.

Picnic Island Tasmania
Picnic Island is a wildlife bonanza inside the incredible Freycinet Peninsula on Tasmania’s east coast. Ironically the former convict quarry is now the perfect escape for nature lovers. You’ll be the only people on the island, but you won’t be alone. Dolphins, seals and birds pop by during the day, and you can watch the penguin parade at night as they waddle back to their burrows.

Troubridge Island South Australia
Troubridge Island is a stunning white sand island 6km off the Yorke Peninsula where time almost stands still. It’s an important breeding bird refuge, and is home to a large colony of little penguins. Stay in the historic lighthouse keeper’s cottage. Built in 1856 it has all the comfort for an idyllic escape from city life. Fish, swim or just enjoy your isolation.
